The Massachusetts Pharmacists Association and the Massachusetts Division of Insurance  (DOI) are hosting a webinar on the Massachusetts ACCESS Law:  Understanding Required Contraceptive Coverage, scheduled for Thursday, August 5, from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Massachusetts ACCESS Law: Understanding required contraceptive coverage, including for 12 month prescriptions
A February 2021 article in Commonwealth magazine by reporter Sarah Betancourt has focused attention on a 2017 law that among other things allows women to receive a 12-month supply of birth control, instead of requiring them to visit a pharmacy each month. The problem, the article pointed out, is that no one promoted the 12-month provision so hardly anyone took advantage of it.

In an effort to increase awareness, the DOI is hosting a virtual meeting in collaboration with MPhA on August 5, 2021 from 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. to clarify insurance benefits for contraceptive coverage, including required coverage for up to a 12-month contraceptive prescription.

During the meeting, Kevin Beagan, Deputy Commissioner for the Health Care Access Bureau, will discuss covered benefits, required waiver of cost-sharing and the availability of filling a 12-month prescription after the first contraceptive prescription is provided to a person.  Following the DOI presentation there will be time for individuals to ask questions that may be used in a future Question and Answer document.

Those who are able to attend should join the Webinar, or if participating by telephone, by dialing 857-327-9245. Phone conference ID 513 106 680#

The meeting will also be recorded.
